Snellville Performing Arts is so excited to announce our Spring schedule, including new styles of dance we've never offered before!  If you're looking for the perfect holiday gift, this is it!

 

SPA has classes for all ages and levels as we encourage our students to not only learn skills in dance, voice, and performance, but also recognize and encourage personal, emotional, and social growth, as well.  Snellville Performing Arts strives to serve the whole student and our staff members, teachers, students, and families all work together to create a supporting, engaging, and fun atmosphere.

SNELLVILLE MINIS DANCE  |  AGES 3-5  |  TUESDAYS 6:00PM-6:45PM  |  COMBO DANCE, MUSIC, YOGA, & RHYTHM

Children will learn how to focus and center themselves through playful self expression, strengthening their bodies and minds.  Classes each week will consist of fun and challenging poses, yoga games, and themed yoga adventures.  The outcome of this course will include discovering a connection to mindfulness and breathing techniques through yoga, art, music, and more as kids release energy, improve coordination, and increase flexibility.

Class Dates: FEB 7, 14, 21, & 28; MAR 7, 14, 21, & 28; APR 11, 18, & 25; MAY 2 & 9  **Dance Recital Saturday, May 13th at 7:00pm.

DANCE 101  |  AGES 6-7  |  TUESDAYS 7:00PM-7:45PM  |  COMBO BALLET, JAZZ, HIP HOP, & CONTEMPORARY

Our Music & Movement series continues for young performers ages 6-7 where we begin learning the fundamentals of dance and using our skills to complete fun routines and begin learning choreography with an introduction to different types of dance.  This course continues developing both fine- and gross-motor movement, balance, and will teach performers a foundation of dance skills.  Classes each week will consist of physical warm-ups, stretching, guided movement, and learning beginning choreography.  The outcome of this course will include discovering different ways to use the whole body to express a song with movement; learning basic dance and breathing techniques; increasing range of motion and balance; and gaining a general and beginning appreciation for dance, music, and movement.

Class Dates: FEB 7, 14, 21, & 28; MAR 7, 14, 21, & 28; APR 11, 18, & 25; MAY 2 & 9  **Dance Recital Saturday, May 13th at 7:00pm.

MT CHOREO COMBOS  |  AGES 11-18  |  MONDAYS 7:00PM-7:45PM  | MUSICAL THEATRE CHOREO

This course is perfect for students who want to learn not only a variety of styles, but how to pick up combinations quickly and perform them with confidence.  Classes each week will consist of physical warm-ups and learning choreography combos that allow students to express a song and story through dance.  In addition to enjoying fun choreography and showtunes, the outcome of this course will include learning technique and performance skills while developing a personal style and character.

Class Dates: FEB 6, 13, & 27; MAR 6, 13, 20, & 27; APR 10, 17, & 24; MAY 1 & 8 **Dance Recital Saturday, May 13th at 7:00pm.

ADVANCED DANCE  |  AGES 11-18  |  MONDAYS 8:00PM-8:45PM  | COMBO CLASS FOR PRE-PROFESSIONAL DANCERS

This class is for performers with a passion for dance and includes a more serious and technical approach to choreography and dance.  This is a fast-paced class for intermediate and advanced students combining styles and blending techniques to explore multiple genres of dance.  Classes will include warm ups, stretches, across the floor progressions, and choreography combos.  This is a class for dancers who like creative challenges with a focus on total body connectivity and expressing personal style.

Class Dates: FEB 6, 13, & 27; MAR 6, 13, 20, & 27; APR 10, 17, & 24; MAY 1 & 8 **Dance Recital Saturday, May 13th at 7:00pm.

AFRO-HOP 1  |  AGES 4-7  |  WEDNESDAYS 6:00PM-6:45PM  |  COMBO AFRICAN MOVEMENT & HIP HOP

Explore African and Hip Hop dance as we discover and connect the history, dance, and music of these styles! We will reflect on how African dance may have influenced Hip Hop and enjoy learning rhythm while exploring range of motion and gaining understanding of Hip Hop fundamentals.

LET'S PLAY! (ACTING FOR AGES 4-6)  |  THURSDAYS 6:00PM-6:45PM

This course will introduce our youngest aspiring performers to the world of acting and theatre.  Classes each week will consist of warm-ups, theatre games, silly songs, and more.  The outcome of this course will include discovering different ways to use the whole body to express emotion; increasing confidence in performing and speaking; and gaining a beginning appreciation for acting and theatre.

Class Dates: FEB 9 & 23; MAR 2, 9, 16, 23, & 30; APR 13, 20, & 27; MAY 4 & 11  **Class Performance May 11th at at 6:30pm

ACT UP! (ACTING FOR AGES 7-10)  |  THURSDAYS 7:00PM-7:45PM

The next step in our acting series for young performers where we continue learning about the world of theatre.  Classes each week will vary, including things like warm ups, theatre games, character and script discussions, and other activities and learning opportunities to help build skills in all areas of performance.  The outcome of this course will include discovering different ways to use the whole body to express emotion; increasing confidence in performing and speaking; and a continuing appreciation for acting and theatre.

Class Dates: FEB 9 & 23; MAR 2, 9, 16, 23, & 30; APR 13, 20, & 27; MAY 4 & 11  **Class Performance May 11th at 7:30pm

SHAKESPEARE KIDS! (A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM)  |  AGES 8-18  |  FRIDAYS 6:00PM-6:45PM

This class is a fun crash course introduction to Shakespeare – for kids!  Student performers of any skill and experience level will enjoy rehearsing and performing a delightfully funny and witty adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night's Dream (that’s easy for adults to understand, too) as well as learning about Shakespeare's other works and Shakespearean theatre techniques!

A Midsummer Night's Dream Summary: When four Athenian friends run away to the forest, they get tangled up in a prank meant for the Fairy Queen.  Puck the fairy gets mixed up by his Fairy King’s instructions and stirs up trouble for everyone, including a group of actors rehearsing in the forest.  In the end, the Fairy King sets everyone right and they all wander from the forest wondering if it was all just A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

 

Class Dates: FEB 10 & 24; MAR 3, 10, 17, 24, & 31; APR 14 & 21; MAY 5 & 12  **Performance: Friday, May 12th at 6:00pm

**Performers registered for this class must be available on the performance date

ACTING |  AGES 11-18  |  FRIDAYS 7:00PM-7:45PM

This course introduces students to core principles of musical theatre and builds a foundation of knowledge on which we can expand as students progress.  Classes each week will vary, including things like warm ups, theatre games, acting and staging techniques, character and script analysis, and other activities and learning opportunities to help build skills in all areas of performance.  The outcome of this course will include new skill acquisition; further development of existing skills; a deeper understanding of character, movement, voice, etc; and an overall appreciation for theatre and acting.

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING  |  AGES 11-18  |  MONDAYS 6:00PM-6:45PM

This course encourages students to learn, understand, and put to practice a variety of conditioning skills that will help actors and dancers of any level.  Classes each week will consist of warm-ups, core strengthening exercises, working on flexibility and injury prevention techniques, and other body conditioning skills.  The outcome of this course will include increased flexibility, a stronger core, safer and improved techniques in dance and movement, and building stamina as a performer.

HOMESCHOOL THEATRE  |  CLASS IS FULL FOR SPRING 2023

Our Homeschool Theatre program is designed for students at a wide variety of ages and skill levels. Whether you are brand new to the stage or a seasoned performer, our approach to the production process is designed to identify your student’s current strengths and help them continue to grow and develop as a unique young performer. Emphasis is placed on understanding and involvement in the entire artistic theatrical process, from understanding the historical background of the play, to collaboration on concepts for sets and costumes.

ODYSSEY OF THE MIND  |  CLASS IS FULL FOR SPRING 2023

Odyssey of the Mind is an international creative problem-solving program that includes a long-term problem and spontaneous problem, both presented at leveled competitions. SPA will host two teams: Division 1 (Grades K-5) and Division 2 (Grades 6-8) both meeting simultaneously. Teams are limited to 7 members each and will be auditioned to ensure a good fit.

VOICE LESSONS |  FOR ALL AGES

Snellville Performing Arts is thrilled to offer one-on-one private voice lessons for students of all ages. Our voice teacher and music director, Jessica Mingorance Pereira uses age/level-appropriate exercises and technique training and students have opportunities to explore a variety of musical genres. SPA's vocal focus will be on creating and maintaining healthy practices, improving technique and performance skills, and exploring a love of music and the arts.

REGISTERING FOR OUR SPRING 2023 STUDIO CLASSES

Registration opens soon and we expect classes to fill up quickly, so please reserve your spot!  Please also thoroughly read the information below regarding tuition, registration, dress codes, safety guidelines, and more.

TUITION & REGISTRATION FEES

SPA's Spring Conservatory Classes run from the first week in February through the second week in May.  There is a $25 registration fee per student (only paid once) and each individual class fee is paid monthly, with no additional costume or recital fees.

COVID-19 SAFETY MEASURES & REQUIREMENTS:

- Students who exhibit any symptoms of Covid-19, including cough, shortness of breath, fever, etc will not be permitted to attend classes

- Students should keep their personal items in a personal bag/backpack

STUDENT & PARENT COMMITMENT

Snellville Performing Arts’ mission is to create and maintain an inclusive arts education program that allows aspiring young performers the opportunity to engage in affordable and accessible training, outreach programs, classes, and performance opportunities.  SPA encourages kindness, respect, and accountability as student performers engage in creative collaboration to explore emotions, expand their imaginations, and develop their own unique voice in all areas of the performing arts.  We depend on our staff, students, and families to help us achieve these goals.  In an effort to continue positive and creative growth, we ask that parents and students review and commit to the expectations below:

STUDENTS:

-Arrive on time and dressed appropriately for classes with all materials needed for your scheduled class

-Recognize that attendance is integral to developing technique and skills.  Students who are chronically absent may not be able to perform in the recital

-Maintain focus while working in class to help ensure each student's growth, development, and safety

-Are respectful of other students, staff, materials, and the facility

PARENTS:

-Should notify us if your child will not be able to attend a class

-Ensure that their students arrive on time, dressed appropriately, and with the materials necessary for class

-Should take note of all class dates and recital/performance dates (if applicable)

-Understand that classroom doors will remain closed during classes to minimize distractions, limit numbers, and to ensure that students remain focused and engaged during their scheduled class

Please note that all students should arrive dressed for class and ready to begin as soon as their class time starts.

SNELLVILLE MINIS & DANCE 101: Dancers in these classes are welcome to attend classes in leotards and black ballet or slip on jazz shoes or they can attend in comfortable athleticwear and sneakers.

MT CHOREO & ADV DANCE: Dancers in these classes should wear leggings, jazz pants, jazz shorts, or other appropriate bottoms (no jeans, khakis, or other restrictive clothing), a tank or t-shirt, and black slip on jazz shoes.  Dancers may alternatively choose to wear a leotard and tights.

AFRO-HOP: Dancers in these classes should wear sweat pants or other appropriate bottoms (no jeans, khakis, or other restrictive clothing), a tank or t-shirt, and sneakers that are not worn outside.
